Alex Rins: "I'm Still a Rider at Heart" - Navigating a Challenging MotoGP Season
In a candid interview, Alex Rins opens up about his 2025 MotoGP campaign, a year filled with both triumphs and tribulations. Despite doubling his points tally, Rins finds himself in a humble 19th position in the world championship standings, a stark contrast to his former glory days with Suzuki and Honda.
"It's been a tough road," Rins confesses. "The Yamaha M1 didn't quite live up to expectations, and when your bike isn't performing, it takes a toll on your results and morale."
But Rins isn't one to dwell on setbacks. He credits his supportive team for keeping his spirits high, even in the toughest of moments. "My crew is incredible. Their unwavering support has been my anchor during this challenging season."
And this is where it gets interesting. Rins' best finish of the season was a solid seventh in Australia, but his true prowess shone through in Mandalika. He dominated FP1 and qualifying, showcasing his raw talent and potential. "When the bike and I are in sync, magic happens. Mandalika proved that I haven't lost my touch!"
However, qualifying consistently proved to be a hurdle. Rins struggled to secure a top grid position, starting 15th or lower in half of the races, which significantly impacted his race outcomes. In contrast, his teammate Fabio Quartararo dominated with five pole positions, highlighting the disparity in their performances.
"Fabio has an innate connection with the Yamaha. His experience gives him an edge. For me, it's a learning curve, but I'm determined to master it," Rins explains.
As Yamaha retires its Inline engine, Rins' victory with Suzuki in Valencia 2022 becomes a historical milestone - the last MotoGP win for an Inline machine, at least for now.
Looking ahead, Rins is optimistic about the upcoming V4 project. His goal? To reclaim his position as a contender and fight for victories once more. "I want to get that winning feeling back. And, of course, the ultimate dream is to win a world championship."
