I quite remember NOTHING happening in season 1 and the finale being a whole load of more nothing so I'm now even questioning if I even watched the series to completion.
I just have the memory of saying "wait, is that it?" lol

and the crowd goes mild. I love the original CCS but clear card was a very unnecessary follow up. They should have aged up the characters and done something a bit different(yeah i know tsubasa chronicles did it already but meh).

I have to wonder if they will continue to make things confusing with continuity with the original anime like S1 did.

I think the manga also resumed publication today after a hiatus so it doesn't make sense that they would troll-announce that the anime is continuing

April 1st is also a recurring motif in CLAMP's works (the birthday of several characters, and even the name of one of their protagonists). No reason to doubt this.
Presumably this will take the arc to the end since the manga is also ending soon. I wonder if it will deviate though,
since if I recall the ending of S1 deviated from the manga.

The first season was a pretty safe follow up that didn't really do much besides some SyaoSaku fluff. Hope it gets more interesting.

Please do not say sike, I've been waiting so long for this!
I am surprised by the replies about the first part of Clear Card, though. I would definitely say stuff was happening and being setup to pay off. That's why it was so frustrating to see it in limbo for years. Also, the original CCS did the same thing, quietly sowing the seeds of its plot twists for a long while.

Weren't there already 3 seasons starting in '98? Is this a continuation or a reboot? weird

Same here. Biggest complaint for me was how they were still kids and this was basically the original series. The worst aspect is that everything Sakura did in the second season was for nothing since she can't use those cards.

I've really enjoyed what I've seen so far. I don't see the need for aging up the characters. While I could watch Card Captor Sakura to the end of my days so if they want to follow Sakura until after highschool or something, I'm here for it. But I don't need it. But I do need this season 2.
Also really excited because this means a new wave of merchandise! God I love the CSS aesthetic.

Hell yeah, give me as much CCS as they're willing to make.

It's a continuation. It picks up like a year after the original (technically after the second movie). There is a ""reboot"" aspect to it in that there's a new set of cards.

It's a direct sequel to the OG series, but there are so many call backs and nostalgia fan service with the clear cards that it also acts as a reboot to me.
Essentially only the first and the two latest episodes (approx.) have important events to the cannon, with bits and pieces here and there to build up the pay off (which still hasn't happened). Otherwise it's just Sakura getting her slightly different cards back with LOTS of comparisons with how she got the OG set and a couple of new characters thrown in midway, similar to how Eriol arrived. I do enjoy the nostalgia so I have no issue with that myself as long as it's new content though lol.

Amazing timing since I was just thinking about reading the manga last week due to the long wait since the last season. Gonna wait for the anime instead then!

Funny enough I just started rewatching the original show this week. Still one of the best anime to date, from the music to the art and scene direction. Haven't seen Clear Card yet. I'm assuming this second season will take the story to the end of the manga, but if the first season was only 1-cour and ended at chapter 28 of 70-something then I dunno. Hope it isn't rushed and they give it enough episodes.

First season of Clear Card was 22 episodes, so they'll either need to have a much longer season to cover the rest of the manga, or do a season 3 as well

Also don't forget that the first season had "filler" episodes with original cards, so if the new season doesn't have invented cards they could theoretically adapt more chapters in the same number of episodes, although I think season 2 would still need more episodes than season 1 to adapt everything.
